“According to legislation and regulations, we are required to separate all waste substances. Too little attention, however, is given to the way to achieve this in practice,” suggested Peter Lammers, owner of P. Lammers Car Repairs in Westervoort. ARN Recycling Services (RS) is one player that is active in the field. “The most important aspect for me is that I have a single telephone number and not 20 addresses and disposal locations as in the past. Now I deliver all my waste to a single address.”

Sharp prices
Thanks to the bulk agreements concluded by ARN RS, they can offer very sharp prices; a huge bonus for the car repair company. Contacts with RS staff are also smooth and in most cases the processes are more or less automatic. “You simply make an arrangement and from then on everything is dealt with,” continued Peter Lammers.

Problem-free
The transition to ARN RS also applies to suppliers who come to collect the items. Everything is organised internally, problem-free. According to Lammers, you as a business have nothing more to do with the waste handling.

ARN Environmental Scan
ARN also offers an environmental scan. This is not an option taken up by Mr Lammers. “I experienced a fire in the business in 2007,” he explained. “During the reconstruction work, everything was investigated in detail. The entire premises are insulated, the lighting systems were closely examined, and all the necessary actions were taken.” According to Lammers, this is deifinitvely reflected in the costs. Before the fire, water in the garage would freeze. Now temperatures never fall below 10 degrees. Despite Peter Lammers’ decision not to use the ARN Environmental Scan, he does see major advantages in its deployment.

Unexpected
For Peter Lammers one unexpected advantage of cooperation with ARN RS is that during a company inspection, the environmental officer is often satisfied as soon as he sees the ARN containers. “They simply request the details via ARN RS,” continued Peter Lammers “And that saves me a great deal of administrative work.”

Contributing ideas
Nonetheless there are issues for which Peter Lammers would like to see ARN RS contribute ideas. “I would like them for example to look into the fluids I can no longer use. If the head gasket breaks, you are left with a mixture of oil and coolant. At the moment there is nowhere to dispose of that kind of material. I would also like ARN RS to investigate more practicable disposal systems; after all, the eventual goal is for everything to be disposed off as soundly, responsibly and efficiently as possible,” concluded Mr Lammers.
